About Us
We Are
Jimmy Gunawan – Having graduated with a degree in English/American Studies and German Studies from a German university, well-respected for its padagogical programs and, along with that, Spanish electives during his college time, Mr. Gunawan has dedicated his adult life to teaching languages after the return to his native Indonesia.
Prior to his return, having lived well over 10 years of his adolescent life and some of his early adulthood in Germany, Mr. Gunawan has experienced multiple life facets of a western-characterized world.
During his residence there, apart from his own studies and giving tutorials to the freshmen, he was also engaged in other social activities e.g. the church band, teaching arts and crafts for the Sunday school, SfC and ESG (both communities for christian university students), being the volleyball and badminton trainer and active member of his respective collegiate sport clubs, etc.
As teaching and learning, as well as observing, analyzing and comparing languages have become his passion, his choice of career has always evolved around imparting his wisdom to others, whether it is mainly his language knowledge or even other skills he acquired during his life until now, for personally experiencing the improvements of someone under his tutelage has always been one of his sources of delight in life.
Kurniawan Wijaya – Due to the fact that he graduated with an engineering degree from a well-known university in Germany, he has familiarized himself with working in a research setting and environment at the university department.
Afterwards, he worked in that particular industry as an engineer at an esteemed German company with international recognition for multiple years as well before he decided to return to Indonesia.
Here on this site, he will be writing on topics about multiple facets of living independently in Germany as a foreigner and in particular about how to prepare for a study in Germany.
Certainly, his first-hand experience will be helpful for people, who are attracted to study in a foreign land, in this case, the beautiful country of Germany.
Our History
Inspired initially by two German college graduates of Indonesian native with the aspiration of sharing their experience living in a foreign land with a whole new culture for the purpose of acquiring knowledge, KernDeutsch was established to introduce Indonesian people to everything Germany – the country, the people, the language, the culture etc. – as a means of information source and assistance, especially in facilitating Indonesians who dream of pursuing higher education in the Erfinderland Deutschland.
Germany, as one of the economic powerhouse and leading industrial country in the world offers much more than prospective employment at internationally recognized companies after graduation – prior to that, starting from the low cost – high quality education, Germany is also known for its rich culture, history, art and philosophy, furthermore, most international college students would also use their time of residence here to indulge themselves in the world of culinary and travelling of not only Germany, but also its neighboring countries.
KernDeutsch provides among others useful information on what one has to prepare before actually going to a German college as well as a customized private/semi-private classes German Language classes. Additionally we prepare our students to have a mindset of the modernized western world to improve their global competence by preparing them for not only the necessary language competence as required by their respective colleges, but also the knowledge about the lifestyle and what it’s like to live as “Germans”.
A diverse choice of classes, modified to serve the purpose of each students needs, are provided by KernDeutsch, be it learning German from the beginning, ‘refresher’ course for people with prior knowledge of the German language, language certificate prep course, entrance test prep course for Studienkolleg, etc.
By request, KernDeutsch also offers their students consultation on their future study subject, the city of choice, their prospective working fields and management of administrative matters, such as college application, document translation, creating a German bank account, living accommodations, additional language course in Germany, visa application, flight booking and pick up at the train station in the city of choice to mention a few.
